Annotation:This study examines how the structure and organization of high schools influences students’ decisions about whether to drop out, or to persist until graduation. In particular, methods used by high schools to retain or to push out their students are identified. Findings focus on the importance of school size, curriculum, and social relations in influencing students’ decisions to drop out.
