Annotation:This report highlights the findings of the Bill & Melinda’s Gates Foundation from its first seven years of grantmaking directed at preparing every student for college, work, and citizenship. The findings include: (1) Results will take root most quickly in new schools; (2) Improvements happen more slowly at existing high schools; (3) District-level commitment is critical and efforts must be clear and comprehensive to work; and (4) Policy sets the context for school change and is a critical path to scaling up best practices.
