Title:Apply to succeed: Ensuring community college students benefit from need-based financial aid
Source:http://www.ed.gov/about/bdscomm/list/acsfa/appl...
Date:2008
Organization:Advisory Committee on Student Financial Assistance
Short Description:Community colleges play an important role in bachelor’s degree attainment, especially for the most economically vulnerable students. However, the community college pathway to a bachelor’s degree is not as strong as that of students who begin at a four-year institution. Strengthening this pathway is a necessary means to improving America’s ability to remain competitive in a global economy.
Annotation:The nation’s community college system stands as an affordable point of entry to the pursuit of a four-year degree for nearly 7 million credit students each fall, many of whom are low- and moderate-income (AACC 2008). As a result, community colleges play an important role in bachelor’s degree attainment, especially for the most economically vulnerable students. However, the community college pathway to a bachelor’s degree is not as strong as that of students who begin at a four-year institution. Strengthening this pathway is a necessary means to improving America’s ability to remain competitive in a global economy.
