Title:The financial aid challenge: Successful practices that address the underutilization of financial aid in community colleges
Source:http://advocacy.collegeboard.org/sites/default/...
Date:2010
Organization:College Board
Short Description:This report will serve as a guide for leaders and administrators at community colleges who are interested in increasing the number of students applying for and receiving ?nancial aid. Included are examples of successful programs, policies and approaches, and valuable recommendations on ?nancial aid administration that are speci?c to the community college student population.
Annotation:Too often, low- and moderate-income students attending community colleges do not apply for ?nancial aid. In the 2007-08 academic year, 58 percent of Pell-eligible students who attended community colleges either full time or part time applied for federal ?nancial aid, compared with 77 percent of Pell-eligible students at four-year public institutions. Although community college students are most likely to be eligible for need-based federal aid, they are less likely than their peers at other types of institutions to ?le the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). This report will serve as a guide for leaders and administrators at community colleges who are interested in increasing the number of students applying for and receiving ?nancial aid. Included are examples of successful programs, policies and approaches, and valuable recommendations on ?nancial aid administration that are speci?c to the community college student population.
