| Annotation: | With automation and overseas outsourcing eliminating many low-skilled jobs — and, increasingly, many higher-skilled ones — more and more Americans need postsecondary education or training to earn a living wage. Many workers don’t have such credentials, however, and reforming the K – 12 education system will not fully solve this problem, because students will not enter the labor force for years. Today’s workers need to upgrade their skills now. However, with research showing that millions of American adults lack basic literacy skills, let alone more advanced skills, helping adult learners will require new approaches to the funding, organization and delivery of postsecondary education and training. |
